Day 5

We packed up wearing the local Yukon style hats and got ready to head out.

Graham was goofing around a bit and ended up upside down on a steep bank.

We stopped at the Wolf It Down cafĂ© for breakfast and had the worst service so far on the trip. Food was good though. After this it was downhill... it started to pour rain. We could see it coming and pulled the raingear on before we got wet so that was good, but it was miserable. 50 degrees and unrelenting rain. Was hard to see and the traction control on the BMW would make the engine cut out when one of the tires would hydroplane.

We ended up in Carcross and found a clothes dryer at a gas station and dried our gloves and helmet cheekpads. On the way to Whitehorse we stopped at the Carcross desert. A large area of sand in the middle of the mountains. Weird...

Emerald lake

To make a miserable wet day even worse, my GoPro got lost. One of the mounting brackets broke. I don't know where it happened.

We stopped at Takhini hot springs which is about 20 miles north of Whitehorse to warm up and get a bite to eat.

Then we drove back to Whitehorse for the night. Everything was full but we found a room at the Airport Chalet and did some maintenance on the bikes.

We've heard from a few different people about a campground in Tok. This might be our goal for tomorrow.

  1. Thanks for blogging -- I've been loving it. I'm one of Graham's friends -- was hoping to be on this trip but it didn't work out. Sorry about your gopro. Have fun and keep writing for us guys living the trip vicariously :)
