The next morning we packed up and headed south again.
Risto left well before Graham or I because he wanted to get out before it rained. I took it real slow because I wanted to take more pictures than I did on the way up. Saw some sheep and a moose.
There was this river that had muddy red water in it and red rock everywhere. I had smelled some sulfur on the way up so I stopped and poked around a bit and found the source of the smell. It was from a weird blue colored pool that kept bubbling.
I saw these rain clouds over the hill and as soon as I crested it, got pelted with huge drops of rain so I did a quick u-turn and went back a few miles to a pullout I had noticed to get my rain gear on. The rain was very heavy... the last time I rode in rain this heavy was maybe 30 years on the Minnesota Iron Range in a storm that had tornadoes in it. I could feel the rain drops through the armor of the riding gear I was wearing, and it was raining so hard that the road was starting to wash out. It was only about 10 miles before it stopped but am glad Risto made it our before he had to ride through that. Was very slippery and muddy. We were really lucky with the weather overall on the Dempster.
Back to asphalt roads and the Dempster Highway sign.
We went back to Dawson City and found a campsite that had laundry facilities and wash some clothes and got most of the mud off the bikes and our riding gear. Hope it dries overnight.
